What is The PopRecord?
PopRecord exists because music listeners deserve to know what they're listening to. We're not here to condemn AI-generated music — some of it is genuinely creative and interesting. We're here to make sure the humans who love music can make informed choices about the artists they support, stream, and spend money on. Ironically, we use AI to do it. We think that's kind of beautiful.
How it works
We pull publicly available data signals from Spotify and other sources. We analyze profile images for signs of AI generation. We look at release patterns, social footprint, and platform history. Then we feed all of that — as derived signals, never raw content — to an AI model that synthesizes them into a confidence assessment. No single signal is conclusive. We're looking at the pattern, not the individual data point.
Our limitations
PopRecord will never be perfect. Real artists get flagged. AI farms slip through. The signals are probabilistic, not definitive. That is why every profile carries a caveat, and every flagged artist has a clear path to appeal. If you know something that changes the picture, we want to hear it.
Appealing a result
If you are an artist and believe your PopRecord profile is inaccurate, use the "I am this artist" button on your profile page to submit verification evidence. We review every appeal. A successful appeal changes your confidence tier to Verified Human permanently.
About AI and transparency
We use AI to find AI. That is intentional, self-aware, and central to what we do. We are not anti-AI — we are pro-transparency. Those are different things. PopRecord does not display ads and has no financial incentive to flag any particular artist. We exist to put pressure on streaming platforms to do this work themselves.
